John Finucane MP meets with New England community at public event - “Great enthusiasm in America.”

People drove to Boston from Rhode Island, New York, and from all over Massachusetts on Monday night for an opportunity to hear from Sinn Féin North Belfast MP John Finucane before his participation in Tuesday's Edward M Kennedy Center for the United States Senate event, "25 Years of The Good Friday Agreement."

The event, hosted at The Dubliner in Boston, included a presentation by Mr. Finucane on the latest developments in Ireland, a question-and-answer session, and many stories shared and retold about the decades of American support for a new and united Ireland.

It offered a chance for many members of the larger community to hear directly about what is happening. Some in attendance have been actively engaged in supporting the goals of peace and prosperity in Ireland for decades, while others were curious about the latest developments and took advantage of the opportunity to listen, learn, and discuss. A local college student (who self reported having no Irish connection) studying International Relations asked about reconciliation and school integration. Members of a local nonprofit, stating clearly that they took no sides in any of the politics in Ireland, asked about the next steps in stopping the harm of the Legacy Act. It was a diverse and engaged crowd, inspired by the promise of a new Ireland.

John Finucane said, “This was a fantastic event. An energetic & engaging room listened as I spoke about the current political situation across the island.

“There is great interest & enthusiasm in America about our island & it’s heartening to hear & feel their support.

“Thanks to all who attended.”
