Justice Delayed is Justice Denied

Rep Richard Neal (D-MA)
“We are heartsick for Geraldine and the entire Finucane family; we are no less determined to work with them to get to the truth.” – United States Congressmen Richard Neal (D-MA) and Chris Smith (R-NJ) said responding to the news that once again the British government has refused to honor their obligations for a full public inquiry into the killing of human rights attorney Pat Finucane. Similar statements were also issued from the Brehon Law Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians in support of the Finucane Family. The rejection of the British Government position was matched by a resolute commitment for continued to support for the family.

Rep Chris Smith (R-NJ)
Sinn Féin, SDLP, Alliance, and the Irish Government have all challenged the British Government for continuing to cover up the murder of Pat Finucane and refusing to honor their agreement for a public investigation. This ruling by the British is not just a reflection on how they view Sinn Fein, but how they view Ireland and the Irish as a whole.
The British government has said they cannot proceed to an inquiry as there is a police investigation currently ongoing. It should be remembered that police agents and officers colluded in the killing and cover-up of Pat Finucane. The police investigation was dismissed by the Supreme Court as inadequate. In a further development, the Police last night stated that “It is our view that there are currently no new lines of inquiry”. So this exposes the British government's position. It is not about finding the truth, but in fact avoiding it and hiding the embarrassing levels of collision the British government was involved in.
The family and their supporters have been clear - the campaign continues for a public inquiry and the full truth.
