Sinn Féin President Briefs The Leaders of Irish American Organizations.
In March of this year, six leading Irish American organizations joined with Friends of Sinn Féin to place advertisements calling on the Irish Government to begin planning for Irish Unity and for the setting of a date for a unity referendum.
The leaders of the Irish American Unity Conference, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the James Connolly Labor Coalition, Knights of the Red Branch and Friends of Sinn Féin USA and Canada, last night joined an online discussion with the Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald.
Mary Lou briefed the leaders on the British Government's threats to renege on their Brexit agreement. The British government is set to use Ireland and the Irish Protocol as a pawn in their endless and baseless dispute with the EU.
Ms. McDonald pointed out that the British government had no regard for Ireland, their responsibility to implement agreements or to honor international law.
Pointing to their proposals to end all investigations, offer unconditional amnesties, and bar civil cases concerning their past actions it is clear that the British government wants to continue the cover-up of the actions of their military.
The Sinn Féin President thanked the leaders of Irish America for their continued support of the agreements and the cause of Irish unity.
The discussion focused on challenging the British Government's refusal to honor agreements and the best way that the US could assist the process. It was recognized that Irish Unity was the big project.
In conclusion, the Sinn Féin President said,
“Every big idea has a moment of moving into the realm of possibility. That moment has come for Irish Unity - that moment is now. We have a huge amount of work to do and l look forward to our continued cooperation and partnership."
